“Canvas Media Studios is aggressively targeting series franchises with the potential for international distribution across a variety of premium platforms, and we are very fortunate to be able to have Lee Rierson, Sandy Grushow and Peter Tortorici actively involved as Canvas enters into a period of sustained growth,” Tochterman, CEO of Canvas Media Studios, said in a statement.“Their guidance and business acumen will prove invaluable as the lines between digital and television continue to blur.” Canvas recently announced a strategic investment from Entertainment One focused on distribution, production and financing of premium scripted content for digital and traditional media.Grushow, who now runs media advisory firm Phase 2 Media, said he’s been an admirer of Bernie Su and his breakthrough work in multiplatform storytelling and has known Tochterman for years.“If this was traditional short-form content, I would have said ‘Thank you,’ and moved on,” Grushow said."This is not a show, as you will see, that is about sex," said Sandy Grushow, chairman of the Fox Television Entertainment Group."This is a show that is exploring the dynamics of serious relationships." Still, Fox tested participants for sexually transmitted diseases, part of an effort by TV networks to be extra careful about the background of reality show participants.
Grushow, 34, was credited with helping develop such Fox hits as 'Martin,' 'Melrose Place' and 'The X-Files.' The upstart fourth broadcast network also began broadcasting seven nights a week during Grushow's short tenure as head of programming and scheduling.
Fox was burned last spring when it came out that its Who Wants to Marry a Multimillionaire groom, Rick Rockwell, had a restraining order issued against him by an ex-fiancee.
Fox refused to say whether any of its Temptation Island participants succumbed to temptation. The men and women in the committed relationships have the chance to vote off Temptation Island - actually a resort off Belize - the people they think their mates would want to date.
I have decided it is time for a new challenge,' he said.
Grushow's departure is the latest in a series of resignations by top Fox executives.
